Dedicated to Patriotism The National Exchange Club is dedicated to fostering a spirit of patriotism among fellow Americans- pride in country, respect for this nation's flag and appreciation of the untold sacrifices which others have made so we might enjoy the gift of freedom These objectives and a desire to heighten awareness of our rich religious heritage led to the adoption in 1964 of the One Nation Under God program. Exchange Clubs implement the program during November each year, through inspirational speakers, programs in schools, distribution of literature, promotion of church attendance and other projects. Another major Americanism activity is the Freedom Shrine project, adopted in September 1949. It was born out of a desire to instill and preserve among our children a lasting respect and appreciation of their precious legacy of liberty. The Freedom Shrine is a handsomely mounted collection of 28 of the most important and historic American documents, ranging from the Mayflower Compact of 1620 to Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" remarks. Many thousands of Freedom Shrines are now on display in schools from elementary to college and in public buildings of all kinds. The Milestones of Freedom project is an adjunct to the Freedom Shrine program, intended to rekindle youthful interest in American heritage and encourage youngsters to read and better understand the Freedom Shrine documents.
